CPR: Rebuilt to Last: California Projects

US-50 in Rancho Cordova, California, enhanced ride quality and noise reduction through the implementation of the Next Generation Concrete Surface (NGCS). NGCS provided a quieter and more comfortable driving experience, supported by diamond grinding and longitudinal grooving. Caltrans closely monitored the suitability, skid resistance, and quietness of the NGCS, leading to its adoption across the state. The success of these projects, often referred to by Caltrans as "Grind and Groove," has resulted in substantial noise reduction and improved surface smoothness, satisfying both taxpayers and residents.
